Corrupt Cala Lily

This patch of Cala Lily's were on Alcatraz Island. Currently the Alcatraz Historic Gardens Project preserves and maintains the gardens created by those who lived on the island during its military and prison eras.

Hangin' around

A member of a troop of Squirrel Monkeys enjoying a bite to eat along the banks of the Sirena River deep inside Corcovado National Park, Costa Rica. Unlike other monkeys in the region, the Squirrel Monkey does not have a prehensile tail, but instead uses it for balance when navigating through the tree tops.

Minds Eye

This California Ground Squirrel had a nice view of the bay as it shaded itself under a bush. This little guy's eye had quite the reflection in it.

Monkey Business

These White-Headed Capuchin's were quite the mischievous group. Capuchin Monkey's are extremely smart and have figured out that finding food in unsuspecting tourist bags might be easier than foraging for food in the forest.

Only Two Points?

This Bull Elk is most likely between 1 and 2 years old baed on its single point antlers. The Bull was foraging along the coast at Point Reyes National Sea Shore with another Bull of similar size.

Yummy

This Bull Elk was foraging alongside a large group of similarly sized bull elk. He was most likely not a victor during the rut. A slightly larger Bull was lounging amongst his harem of cows who had clearly won the battle of the beasts.

Water Iris

This Purple Iris was growing on the shore of a pond near my home town of Crystal Lake, Illinois. It seemed to be thriving even though its base was submerged in water.

White Tailed Deer Doe

Sterne's Woods Park is a treasure trove of different animal species. One of the most easily spotted (that is when they are in the open) is the White Tailed Deer. This doe and a few yearlings were enjoying the Alfalfa field. This Doe had a beautiful coat and she kept her ears on us but didn't seem to be too worried by our presence.

Young Buck

This young White Tailed Deer Buck was in thick vegetation. He raised his head just long enough for me to capture this shot. His antlers were just beginning to grow for the year and were still quite fuzzy.

Chipper

The eastern chipmunk is the smallest Illinois ground squirrel. Eastern chipmunks have conspicuous light and dark stripes on the back, sides, and cheeks. This cute little guy was relaxing on a felled branch. I wonder what happened to his ear? Maybe he was just trying to be hip and get a piercing that went wrong...

California Poppy Dew

This California Poppy had quite a short stem compared to other ones that I have seen. This one was not yet open but it may have closed up because of the cool, rainy conditions.

These delicate white Lily's were throughout Mount Tamalpais State Park near the Cataract Falls.

Western Hound's Tongue

These beautiful flowers covered the floor of the forest in the Mount Tamalpais State Park.
